The National Veterinary and Plant Protection Authority has confirmed today the first case in the country of Peste de petits ruminants (PPR), an infectious disease affecting sheep and goats. The case was detected on a goat breeding farm in the administrative unit of Postribë, Shkodër district.
Samples taken by the Veterinary Service were analyzed at the Food Safety and Veterinary Institute, which confirmed the presence of the virus. Immediately after confirmation, the measures set out in the National Contingency Plan for PPR were implemented, with the aim of isolating, controlling and managing the situation on the ground.
The authorities call on all small animal breeders to respect preventive measures, avoid moving animals and immediately notify the Veterinary Service if they notice symptoms such as fever, runny nose, eye inflammation, diarrhea or sudden death. A toll-free number 0800 3366 has also been made available for reports.
It is emphasized that this disease is not transmitted to humans and does not pose a risk to public health. Authorities promise strict monitoring of the situation and continuous information for citizens. (A2 Televizion)
