Farewell to Archbishop Anastasios, homages and honors begin in Tirana

In the church that he rebuilt and dedicated a good part of his life to, the late Archbishop Anastasios Janullatos's coffin was welcomed by hundreds of believers.

The first honors on Albanian soil were paid in the south of the country, and then the procession headed towards Tirana, where it arrived shortly before 4 p.m. on Tuesday.

With flowers in their hands, believers expressed regret for the passing of Archbishop Anastasios, while appreciating the contribution he made to the Orthodox Church and religious tolerance, writes A2 CNN.

Tributes in Tirana will continue throughout Wednesday, while the funeral service will be held on Thursday, after the Divine Liturgy. The ceremony is expected to be attended by senior leaders of the Orthodox Church, officials from Albania and Greece, and numerous believers.

With his bequests, Archbishop Anastasios will be laid to rest in the "Resurrection of Christ" Cathedral in Tirana.

For the first time in Albania, Anastas Janullatos, who passed away at the age of 95, arrived on July 16, 1991 and served the Autocephalous Orthodox Church for over 30 years. (A2 Televizion)
