The adventure of the 4 immigrants who arrived this morning at the port of Shëngjin on the ship "Cassiopea" lasted only a few hours, based on the agreement reached between the Rama and Meloni governments.
According to Italian media reports, among the 49 migrants who were accommodated in Albania, 3 minors and one person with health problems will return to Italy tonight, making only one round trip to the two shores of the Adriatic.
The 49 migrants from Bangladesh, Egypt and Gambia were rescued over the weekend in international waters south of Lampedusa.
In the “Italian” hotspot of Shëngjin, asylum seekers will be identified and undergo an in-depth medical check. If vulnerable conditions are found, they will be sent to Italy, as happened in some cases in the two previous transfers to Albania, in October and November 2024.
The foreigners will then be transferred to another center in Gjadra, about twenty kilometers inland, based on the detention ordered by the Rome police station.
It is in the zone's waiting area, where migrants are expected to spend the night and the coming weeks, awaiting the outcome of their asylum application.
