This is the moment the Bunec hydroelectric dam, in the Himara Municipality, has just burst.

A2 has secured footage filmed by residents of the area, showing the high amount of water that then flooded homes and businesses.

Residents in the video are seen in panic, although they are far away, as they call for the notification of nearby structures and residents to avoid fatal losses.

According to information from residents of the area, electricity has been restored in the villages of Borsh, Piqeras, Lukovë, Bunec, Shën Vasil, Fterrë, Nivicë. The water has been removed from the Bunec substation that supplied these villages with energy, while the flow of water in the dam has also stopped.

Also, the Vlora Police and the Prosecutor's Office have launched investigations into the case in question. All evidence has been collected at the scene that could lead to the discovery of the factors that led to the dam's collapse. An investigation has also been launched by the prosecutor's office, while it is expected that those responsible for the project years ago will also be questioned.

There are two main reasons why the dam may have broken: poor quality construction and water overloading beyond its capacity, as a result of high flows.

Meanwhile, the Vlora District Prefecture says that there are 12 businesses totally affected by the flooding.

These are seasonal businesses located on Bunec beach. Meanwhile, two apartments were affected in the basements, causing some material damage there, as well as in the yards and surrounding areas.

To be precise, the Vlora Prefecture says that the part that broke was the front wall of a reservoir with a capacity of 15 thousand cubic meters, water which in case of low flows during droughts would be used for energy production. It was built in 2010, when it was completed. (A2 Televizion)
