This morning, the hydroelectric dam in the village of Bunec in Himara burst, putting Civil Emergency structures on alert.
"Today, at around 12:38, in Bunec, Lukovë, it is suspected that the hydroelectric dam has broken, creating a risk of flooding," the police announced.
The Sasaj village hydroelectric power plant is supplied with water from the Kalasa River source and produces electricity for the coastal area of Himara.
As a result of the dam explosion, there was flooding on the national road, Lukovë-Bunec, which is used by heavy vehicles, but also in several businesses in the area, A2 reports.
So far, only material damage has been caused, while the situation is being closely monitored to avoid further consequences.
Police and Civil Emergency services are at the scene, working to ensure the evacuation of any person who may be in danger. Meanwhile, police have called on citizens to avoid movement in the endangered area and to immediately report any emergency. (A2 Televizion)
