Young people are moving away from the traditional employment model and are approaching new forms such as: online work, remote work and freelancing. From the office to the laptop, from fixed hours to flexibility, this new work model is becoming the new reality of a generation that demands more freedom and opportunities.

"It's been about 5 years since I worked remotely for a foreign company," Klevis Bedaj told A2 CNN.

"I work as a software developer...I chose to go freelance," Erik Karaj told A2 CNN.

Erik and Klevis are the example of two young people who, instead of working in an office and with a fixed schedule, have chosen to work independently and without formalities.

"You get the opportunity to be more independent and you are more in control of your personal finances. You are no longer on that 9 to 5 schedule, you no longer have that embarrassment that if you have something personal, a medical appointment, you have to get permission, notify your boss, send an e-mail," added Klevis Bedaj.

“I work from Gjirokastra, which is also my hometown, because Tirana has become very expensive now,” revealed Erik Karaj.

“Apart from the fact that you choose your own hours, you can continue and be more productive, whereas in an office environment, you are a little constrained by that regular schedule, that you will come at 9, but you have a meeting, but then it is a break, you will disconnect, then you will come back again, then it ends at 6. But still there are challenges,” Bedaj underlined.

“The socializing part with colleagues. Always finding clients, finding a job, being engaged all the time… It is not that you share the burden with colleagues in a difficult way,” added Karaj.

Parents, accustomed to traditional work, have not always understood them.

"For the family, always accustomed to traditional work, of course the beginning was sometimes - sometimes for them, even funny, because they said what is this job where your superior is not there to control you," Klevis Bedaj continued.

Faced with difficulties adapting to the job market or applications often going unanswered, online work is being seen as a "salvation" for the new generation of young people who have grown up with technology, who want flexibility and independence.

"They are categories that do not fit into the 9-to-5 schedule. They prefer to be very flexible, preferably working from home. They see work as a goal that fulfills and fulfills them. If we talk about work-life balance, they do not compromise," employment expert Eljana Mete told A2 CNN.

But employers often seek to adapt to the traditional system, and this creates friction.

"An employer must know and be intelligent enough to get the best out of them and cannot force them to come to work on a project that can be worked on from home," added expert Mete.

The latest data from INSTAT shows that 19.1% of people aged 15 to 29 have not yet found themselves in the labor market, and in such a situation and with emigration becoming a trend, online work is worth supporting as one of the alternatives that can keep young people away from the desire to leave Albania.
