Obstructed a court decision, GJKKO puts the former mayor of Shkodra on trial

The Special Court has passed the criminal case against the former mayor of Shkodra, Bardh Spahia, for trial. The former senior local official will be tried for “obstructing the execution of a court decision.” Spahia denied the charges, while outside the court he said that the charges against him were politically motivated.

Bardh Spahia is the next former mayor to sit in the dock at the Special Court. This court agreed on Wednesday to proceed with the criminal case, where Spahia is accused of the criminal offense of “obstructing the execution of a court decision.”

In the preliminary hearing, Spahia did not request a summary trial, while maintaining a negative stance towards the accusation raised by SPAK.

"Of course, that is not true at all. Throughout my activity as mayor of Shkodra, I have only had as my guiding principles the implementation of the law and the protection of the interests of the citizens of Shkodra," said the former mayor of Shkodra.

According to Spahia, currently a candidate on the Democratic Party's lists in the May 11 elections, the complaint against him was prepared in the offices of the Socialist Party, for political use during an electoral campaign.

In the file sent for trial, SPAK claims that Spahia, as the head of the Shkodra Municipality, dismissed the administrator of the Water and Sewerage Authority, Mark Molla, in 2022 and appointed another person to that position.

Molla has filed a lawsuit in court, which has suspended the effect of Spahia's orders until the case is reviewed on its merits. According to SPAK, even without being aware of the court's decision, Spahia has decided to dismiss Molla again, thus preventing the execution of the court's decision.  (A2 Televizion)
