Kilometer-long queue at the Albania-Kosovo border after the traffic ban for trucks during hot hours. As a result of the high temperatures that have affected Kosovo, the Ministry of Environment, Spatial Planning and Infrastructure of Kosovo has taken a restrictive measure that prohibits the circulation of vehicles weighing over 15 tons on the country's main roads, including highways, national and regional roads, from 11:00 to 17:00, from July 23 to July 28, 2025.
Measures have been taken to protect road infrastructure and ensure traffic safety during the hottest hours of the day, where asphalt and road construction materials experience expansion and damage from scorching temperatures.
But this decision has had immediate consequences on the Albania-Kosovo border, where kilometer-long queues of trucks have been created at the border crossing point in Vërmicë, on the Kosovo side. The convoy of trucks starts from the village of Morinë in Kukës and extends to the entrance to Kosovo, blocking a significant part of the traffic on that road segment.
The situation is aggravated by the fact that most of the trucks are loaded with fuel and gas, which poses an increased risk of fire due to prolonged exposure to the scorching afternoon sun. Also, this time slot coincides with the increased influx of Kosovar emigrants coming for holidays in their homeland and vacationers returning from the Albanian coast, causing chaos and numerous delays on the Kosovar side of the border.
Officials from the Ministry of Environment in Kosovo have announced that this decision is temporary and will be reassessed depending on weather conditions in the coming days. (A2 Televizion)
