New case of acute meningitis in Durrës, 14-year-old urgently admitted to

A 14-year-old boy has been urgently admitted to the University Hospital Center of Tirana, after he presented to the Durrës hospital and was diagnosed with meningitis over the past weekend. The minor is under the care of doctors, while the case has been kept secret by the health authorities.

Parents of students at the 9-year-old "Kushtrimi i Lirisë" school have expressed concern about the lack of preventive measures. Currently, the students of this school are attending classes at the host school "Eftali Koçi", as their building will undergo complete reconstruction.

This case follows another fatal case that occurred in December last year, when a 17-year-old from Durres lost her life from acute meningitis at the QSUT. Her health condition deteriorated rapidly after she was initially presented at the Durres hospital.

The high school student had been on a school excursion in Voskopoja, after which she developed a mild viral condition that rapidly worsened and after being sent to Tirana she was diagnosed with acute meningitis. In this case, all exposed persons, family members, students and medical staff were recommended to take prophylactic medications, while the high school premises were disinfected. (A2 Televizion)
