Banned from going abroad, Ilir Beqaj appears in the Special Court

The former Minister of Health, Ilir Beqaj, appeared this Monday at the Special Court, accompanied by his lawyer Ermal Yzeiri.

GJKKO is expected to assess in today's session the security measure "obligation to appear" for the former minister, related to the investigations launched for the sterilization concession.

The session will be led by the judge of preliminary investigations, Erjon Bani.

Until now, from the investigation of the Special Prosecutor's Office, Ilir Beqaj is the highest official under accusation for the violations found with the public-private partnership contract of sterilization worth 100 million euros, while a few months ago in handcuffs for this matter are put the businessman, Ilir Rrapaj and his deputy in the Ministry of Health, Klodian Rrjepaj.

Ilir Beqaj himself has stated that he will not appeal the case, responding to the investigation process with full will.

He has also resigned from the direction of the State Agency for Strategic Programming and Aid Coordination.

In a reaction on social networks, he gave arguments as to why he will not appeal the decision, although he considers it a procedure in violation of the law.

" Although I have serious reservations regarding some aspects of the said decision and my lawyers, in identifying a series of procedural and material violations that at this stage of the process have suggested to me the appeal of this decision, I have decided not to appeal this decision and submit with full will to the requirements and guarantees that this investigative process requires for its normal and orderly development. "My willingness to clarify the truth of this matter as soon as possible goes beyond the limitations of my personal freedoms and even beyond a normal time frame, already several years," wrote Beqaj .
