The waste field in the city of Vlora was engulfed in a fire yesterday evening, which resumed again at dawn this morning due to the wind.
Mayor Ermal Dredha, in a statement to the media, announced that the fire does not endanger homes, while claiming that all structures are on standby to extinguish the fire.
"The fire started around 9:00 last night and was brought under control around 11:00, but due to weather conditions and wind it started again around 4:00 in the morning. There is not much fire presence, but there is a lot of smoke due to the wind. There is no danger to homes."
Dredha guarantees that waste collection in Sherishte is expected to begin within the next week. According to him, the waste field and the one in Orikum will be encapsulated by the start of the summer season.
"The waste will initially be covered with soil and then the project will continue, encapsulation will be done. This is the second phase. I hope that within this week, we will continue with the disposal of waste in the Sherishte landfill. Measures will be taken here and in Orikum as well. The coming season will no longer find us in Orikum and the existing waste field where we are now will not be usable, but we will cover it with soil."
