For the construction of the Elbasan-Qafë Thane axis, part of Corridor VIII, work is being done in parallel on several lots. In addition to the construction of the road body, work is also being done on the construction of works of art, where several important works are planned along this axis. Part of the project, for this work which connects Albania with North Macedonia, but at the same time shortens the distance between the capital and the southeastern area, is the river protection.
The Deputy Prime Minister, at the same time the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku and the Director of the Albanian Road Authority, Gentian Gjyli, followed the progress of the works in Lot 3, which included the segment near the Murrashi Bridge in the Librazhdi area.
"The works are progressing at a good pace. We are at about 56% of the physical progress on this construction site, which is divided into two areas. The first area is in Fushë Labinot, it is connected with the completion of the bypass of Elbasan, which is another project part of Corridor VIII. There the works are almost at the end as they have been relatively simple. The road body is formed and soon the stabilizer layers begin. In the second part, a length of about 800 meters, the situation is a bit more complex as we have a gigantic work of art", said Gjyli referring to the progress of the works at this site.
Elbasan-Qafë Thane is a cross-border project that is being worked on simultaneously in both countries, Albania and North Macedonia. There will also be a new border point between the two countries.
"Interesting is the construction of these two parallel bridges, which are the two lanes of the 8th Corridor highway, which go and join the 5th lot tunnel, to pass to the other area, in the Librazhd area. Albania has the good fortune to watch these great works being built, to be honest Europe has been building them for decades. There are very few such works being developed today, such as the new port in Porto-Romano or the construction of Corridor VIII or Vlora airport", said Balluku.
Corridor VIII is part of the European corridors, while another component of it is the construction of the railway line, a project for which the Albanian Government has significantly advanced.
"Corridor VIII is not just being built here in terms of a new highway, but there is also another component which is the railway, for which we, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy, have applied to the WBIF funds to be supported, as we received support for the Tirana-Durrës railway, as well as for the Vorë-Hani i Hoti railway. We have also received support for Durrës-Rrogozhina and we are already waiting for the fund to be approved from Rrogozhina to Pogradec. So all these great infrastructural works that we build intertwine with each other", announced the Deputy Prime Minister.
