In the center of the cities, in the corners of the neighborhoods or on the side of the roads where people and cars pass... there are 26,600 bars and cafes in Albania. The favorite business of Albanians is more widespread in Tirana with over 8,300 coffee shops, followed by Vlora, Durrës, Fieri and Elbasan. The list is followed by Shkodra, Korça, Lezha, Berati, Gjirokastra, Dibra and Kukësi.
"We all know that Albania has the highest number of bars-cafes and restaurants. There is a recent report which states that after the pandemic there was a contraction in the number of bars and cafes in the world, while in Albania they increased", said Shpëtim Agolli, an expert on the economy.
Albania also breaks records in terms of spending in bars and restaurants. On average, in a year, an Albanian spends 270 euros, the highest level in the Region, Europe and beyond.
"Albanians show that they like to spend time in coffee shops more than most European countries, while Kosovo ranks third, with 11.2% of subjects that offer food and beverage service. States that have their economy linked to tourism activity are ranked the least, such as Montenegro (11%), Cyprus (10.8%), Spain (10.6%), Greece (10%)", Agolli emphasized.
Cafes and restaurants make up 16 percent of enterprises in the economy, employing about 50 thousand individuals. About 64 percent of those who work in bars and restaurants are men. The sector is among the most important for employment, compared to the textile and footwear industry, which has a total of about 55 thousand employees. (A2 Televizion)
