What are the factors that have burdened the pension scheme?

Prime Minister Rama announced today the reform of the pension scheme, in an effort to increase pensions, "while the collapse of 2014", as he considered in his speech, is already over. But what are the factors that have aggravated the scheme and that were publicly acknowledged by the government?

The high level of emigration; the high level of informality and the non-declaration of salaries are the three main reasons why the scheme is currently in deficit. 

Such a situation has led to less revenue being collected in the budget, which would have been available for the scheme to increase pensions.

Albania collects revenue from 27.2% of Gross Domestic Product, leaving only Kosovo behind. While other countries collect much more revenue. 

Today, Albanian pensioners are the poorest in the region.

A pensioner in the city today receives around 18,600 lek per month or 620 lek per day. Meanwhile, the pension in the countryside is much lower and is estimated at 10,888 lek per month or around 363 lek per day. (A2 Televizion)
