Brunilda Isaj, an expert on economics and finance, was invited to A2 Business this Friday where she discussed the diaspora and its impact on the Albanian economy.
The expert said that the Albanian economy will depend on remittances even in the medium term future.
"We were and are an economy that coexists closely with remittances. They have been there for about 2 decades. They are the main financier of the expenses of a very large number of families. Unfortunately, these expenses go to vital things, such as food, medical expenses, education. I think that we will have dependence on remittances even in the medium term future".
But is this dependence on remittances a problem for the economy? "It is an increased risk. However, what we observe is not a decrease in the volume of remittances, but the opposite. If at first they were only for consumption expenses, real estate has already started, with the hope that some of these volumes will be channeled into investments. We have an addiction, but how immune is our economy to withstand even a gradual disconnection of this income, I would say that for a significant part of families, if they do not have alternative sources of income that come in employment or other stable resources, this is something vital, but it is impossible to have a clear picture of how this economy will develop", said the expert at A2 Business.
