An unstable euro has not prevented payments of large amounts in this currency either. Euro transactions carried out for 2024 have marked the highest value over the years.
According to data from the Bank of Albania, the high-value interbank payment system, AIPS, which enables both individuals and businesses to make transfers and payments with low commissions, recorded 291 thousand 67 transactions in the period January-November 2024.
As they are an indication of the high level of use of the Euro in internal economic transactions, payments in Euros from AIPS reached the value of 4.6 billion euros.
In 2023, the Bank of Albania reports that for the same period the number of transactions carried out for payments in euros within the country was 249 thousand with a value of 4.1 billion euros.
A main indicator of the increase in the use of these payments are the purchases that individuals or businesses make in large amounts, properties, vehicles, or movements between banks.
Despite the fact that for a transfer of 100,000 euros, businesses pay less than 50 euros commission, while for payments smaller than 10,000 euros the commission is up to 6 euros, the uncertainties from the exchange rate over the years have plagued individuals and businesses. (A2 Televizion)
