Last year, 61 municipalities collected more money from property taxes. Data from the Ministry of Finance shows that from 6.1 billion lek in 2023, local government units collected almost 7.7 billion lek from the "property tax."
"There is still room for improvement in terms of collecting property tax revenues. This space may narrow with the completion of the "online" administration reform, where all municipalities will have a clearer overview of the facilities in their territories," explains Adelina Farrici.
Last year, more money was collected from property taxes than planned. Of the expected 7.3 billion lek, 61 municipalities collected 359 million lek more.
"Whether they have been used now, at the time of planning, was this realistic or was a measure set that was 10 percent more than the previous year, then this is up for discussion," adds Farrici.
Data from "Finance" shows that Tirana brings in almost half of the total money from property taxes. The list is followed by Elbasan, Vlora, Fier and Durres.
"This is in proportion to the number of population and housing. Tirana has the highest concentration, so it happens like this," added Farrici.
From 2026, the property tax that is paid on the water bill will be higher. This is due to legal changes. The property tax will no longer be calculated on "reference prices", but based on the value of the house or land. (A2 Televizion)
