Businesses desperately seeking employees and skilled individuals being treated with unemployment benefits. This is one of the paradoxes that accompanies the socio-economic life of Albania. Last year alone, 832 million lek were paid out of the state coffers for unemployment benefits, a figure similar to that of the pandemic period.

"I believe that in this case the government should set a period, a deadline, as there are individuals who do not accept due to the type of work. We should give a period of 6 months, 1 year so that even in this case they can find work, otherwise the payment should be cut off as it is not fair in the social, economic or human aspects," Klodjan Shaqiri, an expert in human resources functions, tells A2 CNN.

Spending on unemployment benefits last year exceeded the Ministry of Finance's initial plans by 68 million lek.

"The Albanian government has limited and individual public policies. In this case, we have individuals with special needs who receive a pension to help somewhat with their livelihoods but not completely," says Shaqiri.

Researchers of the country's social and economic life consider it extremely important to include individuals who are often discouraged in the labor market. In this case, less money would come out of the budget and the latter would contribute through their work.

"In this case, ministries could collaborate so that these individuals are included in the labor market according to their skills," says Shaqiri.

Along with unemployment payments, spending on economic assistance also expanded last year. (A2 Televizion)
