Pensions with Italy, Albanian immigrants still have to wait, positive signals

Albanian immigrants living and working in Italy still have to wait to benefit from the mutual recognition of pensions. With all the "green light" that the agreement received on Wednesday in the Chamber of Deputies in the Italian Parliament, the Deputy Minister of Economy, Culture and Innovation, Olta Manjani shows the other links that must be completed in order to unite the years of work.

"The next step is the ratification by the Senate and then the whole agreement will be decreed by the President and then the agreement will come into force. We hope that these stages will pass as soon as possible. Undoubtedly, the most important stage was the passage and approval of the agreement in the Chamber of Deputies, and we think that within the year 2025 the whole process will be completed by the Italian side as well", said MEKI Deputy Minister, Olta Manjani.

Together with Italy, Greece is the other country with the highest number of Albanian immigrants, over 670 thousand, followed by North Macedonia, the United States of America or Germany. After more than three decades of waiting, good news comes for Albanian immigrants who live and work in Greece.

"The fact that they have accepted in these last two years for us to hold two rounds of talks, in Athens and Tirana, is a positive and optimistic sign that makes us think that there is a will to sit down and agree on an agreement such. However, it is understood that in the case of Greece, a lot of political will is also needed since it is about a large number of Albanians who live and work there", added Manjani.

Albania currently has agreements on the mutual recognition of working years with about 20 countries, 13 of which have entered into force and are being implemented.

"Meanwhile, there are three other agreements which have been ratified by the Albanian Parliament, including Montenegro and Romania. In the meantime, there are two other countries, Poland and Serbia, with which the agreements have been agreed and finalized and are awaiting ratification in the respective parliaments. Meanwhile, we are also in talks for the start of negotiations with 6 other countries", the deputy minister explained further.

About 62,000 Albanians living and working in Serbia will soon receive a pension for contributions paid in both countries. The agreement between the governments in Tirana and Belgrade will also benefit 30 thousand Serbian citizens living in Albania. (A2 Televizion)
