Albanians see starting a business as one of the best ways to invest, despite the risks of the domestic and foreign markets that have been present in recent years.
Data shows that during 2024, 17,500 new entities were registered, bringing the number of active businesses across the country to over 247,000.
But in which circles were the most new entities opened?
According to official data, Tirana leads, with more than half of the total businesses opened last year. This is understandable because the capital is home to the largest part of the population and, consequently, consumption, but also economic activity as a whole. After Tirana, Durrës and Vlora are ranked. Meanwhile, the regions with the lowest number of registrations are Kukës with only 139 new businesses, followed by Dibër and Gjirokastra.
But which sectors are most interesting to invest in when opening a business?
Wholesale and retail trade ranks first with 27.8% of the total number of registered businesses; followed by accommodation, food services, and administrative and construction services. Meanwhile, fewer businesses have opened in financial activities and in arts, entertainment and recreation.
