With the entry into force of the new regulation on vehicle insurance premium prices based on risk factors, drivers will pay based on the criteria that are categorized. If it will be a bonus where drivers will benefit starting from 2026 from a reduction in premium and a malus for those problematic, an increase in prices, the Albanian Insurers Association considers it fair.
"Both those who have a 1200 cc car and those with a 4000 cc car pay the same, but taking into account the directives of the EU AFSA and the Economy Commission, the new regulations have started from January 1. It does not mean that there is a 30% increase in the premium, but there are several risk factors where each will take their own toll according to the criteria," said Kadri Morinaj.
Careful drivers, the age of the driver and the age of the vehicle are part of the new insurance premium calculation scheme, according to which their main goal is to raise awareness among drivers in road use.
"It regulates the fairest possible pricing for each client. Starting from cubic capacity, age, number of claims and bonuses they will have. The increase has been articulated but there is also a 5% minus if clients do not have claims. We have not made any changes to the components, we have not increased premiums. But we have applied EU directives", explains Kladi Çitozi.
The insurance market in Albania continues to be oriented towards compulsory motor insurance, which accounts for about 65% compared to 35% for voluntary insurance. This market grew by 8% in 2024 while about 8.5% more customers were added. (A2 Televizion)
