Subsidy for drinking water, here are the categories that benefit

Families receiving economic assistance, people with disabilities, pensioners with insufficient income, as well as individuals without family or social support, will be able to benefit from a subsidy for vital water consumption. This subsidy will cover up to 5 cubic meters of water per month.

For these categories, fixed tariffs, tariffs for sewerage and urban wastewater treatment services will also be subsidized.

The new instruction that determines the methodology for the distribution and use of state subsidies for service providers in the water supply and sewage sector for the 2025 budget year has been published in the Official Gazette and has entered into force immediately, writes A2 CNN.

This instruction aims to regulate the procedures for the distribution of subsidies and provide a clear and structured system of support for the most needy categories.

The subsidy will be distributed by the National Water Supply and Sewerage Agency (AKUK) and will be used to offset the costs of drinking water and sewerage services for those families that are part of the social categories in need, as provided for in the law on social assistance. These families will benefit from the subsidy for up to 5 cubic meters of water per month, as well as for fixed tariffs and services for sewerage and urban wastewater treatment.

Another important aspect is that each family can only benefit from the subsidy once, regardless of the number of its members who may be included in the economic assistance categories.

Water supply and sewerage joint stock companies will be responsible for granting discounts for the necessary categories each month.

To ensure proper use of the funds, certain conditions have been stipulated for the utilities. Only those that have signed a performance contract with AKUK can benefit from this subsidy. The contract is necessary to ensure proper administration of the funds and stronger oversight of expenditures.

In case the water supply and sewage joint stock companies have not signed the performance contract, they will not be able to be reimbursed for the applied discounts.

For eligible companies, AKUK will calculate and distribute the funds in accordance with the data reported by the respective companies. In addition, ongoing supervision will be carried out to ensure that the funds are used as planned and to guarantee that the subsidy reaches those who need it most. (A2 Televizion)
