The tablets would be stored in the garage, KLSH: The law on the collection of

The data of Albanians registered through the 2023 census have not been stored as required by law. A report of the High State Control at the Institute of Statistics highlights the use of electronic devices tablets and their storage during the process of recording data of Albanians.

Although a rented warehouse worth 420,000 lek per month was contracted for technological equipment, this space was used for parking. While the tablets were transferred to premises which the law provided for. The data transfer process was done after connecting to the Internet and synchronizing.

"Data synchronization was not done in this space where the tablets (warehouse) were located, but in the IT environment, due to the lack of internet service in the warehouse environment. As a result, the above actions have violated the principles of security of sensitive data and co-confidentiality, which contradict the Law "On Population and Housing Census" as well as the Law "On Protection of Personal Data", declares KLSH.

"I am amazed how data and equipment can be stored in basements, rented garages. We don't even know what system was used and we don't have to depend on the internet and they are digital, they should have been online. They could be synchronized in real time with data. With all this real-time technological development, we didn't have to keep these devices," said technology expert Edmond Liçaj for A2 CNN.

Despite the conditions under which the tablets were stored and the opposition to the law, some of them have not yet been collected, while others are reused for the needs of INSTAT. But how much does this action endanger the data of Albanians?

"Referring to the contract for the purchase of electronic equipment as well as the relevant Entry Sheet in the INSTAT central warehouse, the total number of these equipment is 7,700 pieces. From the verification of the records, it appears that there are a total of 6,963 pieces in the Cens warehouse. The difference of 737 tablets continues to be used by the Cens monitoring staff in INSTAT, but which are currently used for various projects and surveys, which have nothing to do with the Cens", declares KLSH, A2 CNN reports.

“Why should data be stored on a device and then synced with the system. This is a problem that the security of the device is compromised. There were over 7,000 used devices and over 700 are missing and not stored, and what's more, the same devices are used for other purposes of the institution", technology expert Edmond Liçaj told A2 CNN.

The high control of the State in the audit report advises the establishment of a working group for ascertaining the problems and the complete collection of tablets in order to preserve the data of Albanians. (A2 Televizion)
