"Historical decision that is taken for the first time in 35 years". This is how Prime Minister Edi Rama described the decision to reduce the price of electricity for family subscribers.
"It is a fact that fills us with pride, if we consider the abyss from which we started climbing to this point. On the other hand, if we take into account that the price of energy nowadays is completely against the trend of the region and the continent where we live, where energy prices have increased", declared Rama, writes A2.
The price of electricity had remained unchanged at 9.5 Lek without VAT or 11.4 Lek with VAT since 2015. Earlier, electricity was charged in two bands with prices ranging from 4.5 to 13.5 ALL per kilowatt/hour. Rama answered the questions about whether this is a decision for electoral purposes for the May 11 elections.
"I have no obligation to fill the mind of someone who has filled it back, I know very well that we live in a democracy and everyone has the freedom to say what they want about everything I have done and will do, they will say, over 1 million consumers will pay a reduced price for it", said the Prime Minister.
The most exhausting in the arguments for reducing the price of electricity was the deputy prime minister, also the minister of infrastructure and energy, Belinda Balluku: "This is due to the performance of the sector. We came here after we fulfilled one of the most important technical conditions, which is the reduction of the level of losses, bringing it to 17.93% compared to 46% in 2012. All the investment processes we have today will lead to a further loss. 1% reduction corresponds to 7 million Euro savings per year for OSHEE."
Data from the Energy Regulatory Authority show that from 20.62% in 2021, the level of network losses in the year just left shrank to 17.93%. On the other hand, receipts have expanded significantly in the last 4 years. (A2 Televizion)
