Ajola Xoxa, the wife of the Mayor, Erion Veliaj, appeared before SPAK on Friday morning, two days after the Special Court of Appeals decided to reject her request to return the items seized by SPAK during the December 6, 2024 search of her apartment and businesses.
The reason for Xoxa's appearance today was solely the implementation of the "compulsion to appear" measure.
On appeal, Xoxa challenged the December 20 decision of the Special Court, a decision that previously did not return the seized items, including a mobile phone and several documents.
The mayor's wife requested the return of the items, claiming that they had been administered by agents of the National Bureau of Investigation in violation of legal provisions, writes A2.
The controls were aimed at discovering and managing documentary and electronic evidence, such as mobile phone equipment, laptops or personal computers, for the investigation that led to the arrest of Mayor Erion Veliaj. The complaint was to be reviewed by Judge Ilirjana Olldashi, about whom on February 13, in a public statement, the member of the Presidency of the Democratic Party, Belind Këlliçi, said that she was being intimidated and threatened, a claim that was disputed in an official statement of the Special Court, but was reviewed by Judge Engert Pëllumbi.
But, a few hours before the start of the session, the Appeals Office announced that the case had been transferred to another judge, after Judge Olldashi had submitted a health report for "temporary incapacity for work."
On Wednesday, SPAK continued with other investigative actions in the "Veliaj" file. In the early hours of the morning, his mother-in-law, Valbona Xoxa, and businessman Gentian Sula, to whom the court has imposed the security measure "obligation to appear", arrived at the glass building.
Unofficial SPAK sources reported that Ajola Xoxa's mother and businessman Sula were summoned to give statements on the matter. Referring to the investigative file, SPAK has raised suspicions that a villa in Qerret, purchased from businessman Sula, is the mayor's hidden property, while Veliaj himself claims that it is the property of his wife's parents.
