Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj has left Durrës detention center for the Special Court against Crime and Corruption, where a hearing on his appeal against the security measure "prison arrest" will be held today.
The hearing for Veliaj will start at 10:00 a.m. The mayor of Tirana has been behind bars for about a month, since February 10 when he was arrested in his office by BKH agents on the orders of SPAK.
Judge Engert Pëllumbi will preside over the Special Appeals Session. He is known as the judge who sentenced former Interior Minister Saimir Tahiri to prison.
On appeal, Veliaj opposes the "prison arrest" measure imposed by the First Instance Court following suspicions raised by SPAK against him for involvement in "corruption" and "money laundering".
Together with Veliaj, businessman Elman Abule also opposes the "prison arrest" measure in the Appeal, while businessmen Gentian Sula, Meriman Palushi and Shkëlqim Tufa oppose the "compulsion to appear" measure. (A2 Televizion)
