Europe's most wanted woman arrested after 4 years on the run

Tania Gomez was arrested after a nearly four-year run, becoming one of Europe's most wanted women for her drug trafficking connections. She was caught in Lanzarote after fleeing Sweden in 2021. Gomez, 32, known as Europe's "cocaine queen," is suspected of having links to an organized crime group in Stockholm, where she transported and distributed drugs and illegal cash.

Before her criminal connections became known, Gomez was an Instagram influencer and owner of an animal rescue organization, HundGärin, which claimed to help homeless dogs. However, according to Europol, she was also part of a network that trafficked animals abroad, writes A2 CNN.

Gomez is also suspected of being involved in an operation uncovered by Swedish police in the summer of 2020, where around one million euros in cash were found. She is also accused of money laundering and involvement in illegal drug trafficking and money laundering activities in Stockholm, which is suspected of having served as a hub for mafia groups.

She was also involved in cocaine distribution, and authorities say she seized 10 kilograms of cocaine in May 2020. After the 2020 raid, Gomez fled and is suspected of having gone to Spain, where her father also lived. She was caught in the town of Tias, on the island of Lanzarote, after a joint operation by Spanish and Swedish police.

Gomez has been arrested and is awaiting extradition to Sweden, where she could face up to 14 years in prison for drug trafficking and money laundering. (A2 Televizion)
