Ilaria Sula was stabbed three times in the neck and died of hemorrhagic shock. These are the first results of the autopsy carried out at the La Sapienza Institute of Forensic Medicine, by order of the Rome prosecutor's office, on the 22-year-old Albanian woman, who was macabrely murdered by her Filipino ex-boyfriend, Mark Antony Samson.
At the moment, the autopsy cannot determine the day and time of death of the girl, whose body was found in a suitcase 40 kilometers from Rome. This will require further tests, the results of which will arrive in the coming weeks.
The 22-year-old's ex-boyfriend, Mark Samson, admitted to the murder, confessing that Ilarias took her life in his home, in the African neighborhood of Rome, while the 23-year-old's parents were also in the apartment.
The investigation by the Rome prosecutor's office aims to shed light on a number of aspects related to the last hours of Ilaria's life, including the role of Mark Samson's father and mother.
At the moment, the Samson couple are not registered as suspects in the proceedings in which the crimes of intentional murder aggravated by emotional affair and concealment of the corpse are contested. The parents ( this is a proven fact ) were at home at the moment their son killed Ilarian, a murder that apparently occurred at the height of an argument.
Both confirmed this during a questioning session held at the police station on Thursday. There is currently no specific information on the time and day of death and answers may come from investigative work.
There is essentially a 22-hour gap between Ilaria's last voicemail, which dates back to the evening of March 25 when the girl left the house she shared with her friends in San Lorenzo, and the moment at which a surveillance camera, at around 6pm the next day, captured Mark Samson's car about 500 metres from the Pol valley, where her body was later found. The video, taken by a speed camera, captured the car's license plate number, but gave no information about how many people were on board.
During the first confrontation with the prosecutor of the case, Samson did not answer when he stabbed Ilarian and the motive that led him to commit the murder, in a crime that has all the signs of an impulsive act. However, according to what has been established so far by investigators, everything would have happened in the young man's room, as traces of blood have been found there.
Investigators want to understand if someone helped the boy clean the house and put Ilaria's lifeless body in a suitcase which was then dragged to the car. In this case, the charge of collaboration in hiding a corpse would be raised. Answers in this sense may come from the analysis of Samson's mobile phone and in particular from the conversations used by the boy, who in the days after the crime published, using his ex's mobile phone, reassuring messages ("I'm fine, thank you all") on her social media profiles to deceive investigators.
Investigators are still searching for the weapon with which the ex-boyfriend killed Ilaria Sula. A knife was found in the house, but from the initial assessment it does not seem to be the one used in the crime. Speaking to investigators, the suspect claimed that he threw the knife he used in the crime into a bucket. The Scientific Police have continued to work on the 23-year-old's car throughout the day and officers have returned to the seized apartment for inspection.
Meanwhile, the validity hearing before the investigating judge is scheduled for Friday at the Regina Coeli prison. The defense strategy that the suspect will want to implement must be evaluated taking into account the fact that in the first confrontation with the investigators he essentially exercised his right to remain silent, limiting himself to specifying where he had thrown the suitcase and asking for "apology for what he did" .
