The SPAK investigation into the "Veliaj" file is expected to lead to a total of nearly 30 defendants, individuals and commercial companies.
Among others, SPAK has charged SP MP Klotilda Bushka with the criminal offense of "actions that hinder the discovery of the truth." Also charged are Ina Goxhaj, Adela Kondakçiu, Valmir Xoxa and Erald Simixhi, the latter two relatives of Ajola Xoxa.
Erion Veliaj and his wife Ajola Xoxa were officially named defendants. After the mayor of Tirana refused to appear at the SPAK courthouse by delegating his lawyer, it was the prosecutors themselves who went to communicate the charges to the Durrës detention center where he has been held for several months.
Veliaj is accused of "passive corruption of high-ranking officials and local elected officials", "money laundering" and "concealing undeclared assets" and "bringing prohibited items into prison".
Erion Veliaj has been in prison since February 10th and has consistently denied any accusations or claims made by SPAK against him.
Sali Berisha, concerned about the condition of Veliaj and Ilir Meta in prison, says he has information about inhuman and reprehensible actions against them and asks the Ombudsman to investigate.
