Former Democratic Party MP Ervin Salianji has addressed the Fier Court with a request for conditional release after serving 2/3 of his prison sentence. The hearing is scheduled for 1:00 PM today, while sources indicate that the former MP himself will not be present, and will be represented by his lawyer Ledio Braho.
Salianji has been in Fier prison since September 27, 2024, when the decision to sentence him to 1 year in prison was upheld by the Court of Appeal and later confirmed by the Supreme Court.
Salianji was convicted on charges of " false reporting " for the "Babale" file after the public denunciation of the brother of former Interior Minister Fatmir Xhafaj, while he himself and the Democratic Party have considered this sentence as a political decision dictated by the ruling majority.
In his public reactions, the former Democratic MP has stated that he will take the case to Strasbourg for appeal. The Fier Court is now expected to review the request for conditional release, while this is Salijanj's sixth attempt to have him released. (A2 Televizion)
