Ilir Meta and Monika Kryemadhi are no longer a married couple. This Friday, the Civil Court of Tirana officially ended their marriage of over 26 years.
Although it was only a preliminary reconciliation session, the Court issued a final decision regarding the separation of the President of the Freedom Party from Kryemadhi. Despite the rule that both parties had to physically appear at the session, the former head of the SMI was absent, sending her lawyer, while Meta left prison 313 where he is being held on account of SPAK investigations, as he was escorted by prison officers to the civil court.
The confrontation with justice caused not only a political crisis last year but also a strong family divorce between the couple. It was June 20 of last year when Ilir Meta, president of the Freedom Party, went to court to dissolve his 26-year-old marriage with Kryemadhi, a marriage from which they have 3 children.
Meta was arrested and imprisoned in October last year, while he has already publicly accused his ex-wife of collaborating with the Special Prosecution Office to harm the leader of the Freedom Party. On the other hand, Monika Kryemadhi is under obligation to appear before the court. They are being investigated by SPAK for money laundering, corruption and failure to declare assets in connection with the CEZ-DIA file and the LSI lobbying in the US.
Despite the family and political conflict, the Freedom Party MP does not diminish her desire to support the father of her children in the May 11 parliamentary elections, seeking votes for candidate Ilir Meta.
It now appears that Monika Kryemadhi has launched a campaign in support of Meta, who is running on the open coalition lists with the Democratic Party "Greater Albania" in the Tirana district, convinced that if Meta wins the parliamentary mandate, he will be free again. (A2 Televizion)
