The Border Police at the Port of Durres have cracked down on a case of attempted trafficking of works of art, seizing 10 paintings with an estimated value of around 25,000 euros.
During a detailed check at the exit from Albania, conducted on the basis of a risk analysis, a van driven by citizen Kasem Qato, 37 years old, resident of Elbasan, was stopped for an in-depth check. During the search in his vehicle, 10 undeclared works of art were discovered, for which Qato did not have documentation to prove the origin or ownership.
Following the procedural actions, Kasem Qato was arrested in flagrante delicto, while two other people, identified as QH, 25 years old, resident of Fier, and GN, 53 years old, resident of Durrës, have been declared wanted, as they are suspected of being collaborators in this case.
The procedural materials have been referred to the Durrës Prosecutor's Office for further action, for the criminal offense of "Trafficking in works of art and culture", committed in collaboration.
The Border Police emphasizes that it will continue with detailed controls at border points to prevent any attempt at illegal trafficking of objects of cultural and historical value. (A2 Televizion)
