The Special Court of Appeal overturns the decision on the Fieri incinerator and returns it for a first-instance retrial.

The judging will be taken over by another judging panel.

In September of last year, at the end of the Fier Incinerator case trial, the Special Court sentenced the former Minister of the Environment, Lefter Koka, to 6 years and 8 months in prison for "corruption", "abuse of office" and " money laundering". Former MP Blako was only accused of one charge with 2 years and 8 months.

The owner of the Fier incinerator concession company, Klodian Zoto, was sentenced to 12 years in prison. Of the 4 charges of "corruption", Zoto pleaded guilty to only one of them, while he was also found guilty of "fraud with serious consequences", "creation of fraudulent schemes" and "money laundering".

For the other defendants, the court granted acquittal, or sentences from 3 to 3.5 years in prison, for whom the suspension of the prison sentence was then decided, or release from the cell, since the time spent in custody was greater than the sentence given. .

Koka, Blako and others have been punished for the violations committed in the case of the Elbasan incinerator. The former minister was sentenced on appeal to 10 years in prison, but due to the shortened trial, he will serve 6 years and 8 months in prison. Alqi Blako was sentenced for 'abuse of duty' to 4 years in prison, of which he will serve 2 years and 8 months with a shortened trial.

Meanwhile, Klodian Zoto was sentenced in absentia to 10 years in prison and with a shortened trial he will serve 6.8 years in prison. The same sentence in absentia was given to Mirel Mërtir. Stela Gugallja, arrested a while ago in Vienna, was sentenced to 7 years in prison and with a shortened trial will serve 4.8 years. Pellumb Abeshi and Jonida Zeqo were sentenced to 4 years of imprisonment and with a shortened trial they will suffer 2.8 years of imprisonment. Bardhyl Çabiri was sentenced to 2 years and Serafin Papa 1.4 years in prison.

The Court has also ordered the confiscation of some seized assets of the above-mentioned convicted persons.
