Two police officers have been prosecuted for "abuse of duty" after months of investigation by the Police Supervision Agency for the Elbasan-Korça region revealed that a member of their family had turned the bar-cafe they owned into a gambling den.
AMP explains that "after a several-month investigation conducted with special methods under the direction of the Prosecutor's Office at the First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction in Elbasan, it arrested in flagrante delicto citizen FD, 25 years old, suspected of committing the criminal offenses of "Unauthorized production, possession, purchase or sale of cold weapons", "Hiding income", "Practising an illegal or unregistered commercial activity with tax authorities, etc.", "Organising or carrying out gambling activities in violation of the law" and "Making premises available for illegal games."
Meanwhile, the police officers, who are the 25-year-old's brother and father, were prosecuted for "abuse of duty" while at large.
The officers prosecuted are Inspector GD, 28 years old, serving as a General Patrol officer at the Përrenjas Police Station, and his father, Inspector HD, 63 years old, serving as a General Patrol officer at the Peqin Police Station.
As for the 25-year-old son of the family who ended up behind bars, the police explain that a cold weapon and a considerable amount of money were also seized from him.
" The arrest of citizen FD was carried out after the inspection of the Bar-Cafe business owned by the family, which turned out to be unlicensed, provided evidence and facts that they had adapted the premises of this business for the illegal organization of gambling. From the inspection carried out in the Bar-Cafe business, a knife-type cold weapon, a mobile phone, as well as the monetary amounts of 612,700 lek and 550 euros obtained from this illegal activity were seized ," AMP explains.
