They risked 1.2 million euros, the case against the former senior Finance

The Court of Tirana passed the file for trial against the former General Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Arlind Gjokutaj and two other persons, accused of risking a damage of 1.2 million euros to the state budget.

The former Secretary of Finance, Gjokutaj, will face the charge of "abuse of duty" in court. For the same issue, the bailiff Alban Ruli and the former owner, Ilir Thana, will sit at the table of the defendants.

For the fourth accused in the case, the former legal director of the Ministry of Finance, Fatmir Hoxhaj, the court accepted the prosecution's request to dismiss the case as the suspicions against him were not proven. The defendant Gjokutaj will be tried separately from the two co-defendants, as he will be subject to an ordinary process, while Rulie Thana will be tried in a shortened trial.

According to the Prosecutor's Office of the capital, the former official Gjokutaj has allowed the reward of 1.2 million euros from the state budget of Ilir Thana, as the former owner, for a state property that did not belong to him.

This is due to the fact that he was compensated once before for the same property, which was returned to the state. Referring to the acts, after a revaluation of the property, the Ministry of Finance has cleared the way for compensation in the amount of 1.2 million euros.

Until June of last year, 48.8 million were allocated from the state budget for this amount, of which 23 million were withdrawn from Thana. The prosecution claims that ministry officials were informed by a memo that the former owner had been rewarded once in 2015. (A2 Televizion)
