A French citizen is suspected of having fallen overboard from the international ferry "AKKA", while sailing in the waters between Italy and Albania. Italian and Albanian authorities have launched a large-scale search and rescue operation, which has so far continued without result.
According to the police report, the suspicion is that the passenger either threw himself into the sea, or fell accidentally, as he did not feel well during the trip.
The operation is being carried out in coordination between the National Search and Rescue Center (RCC Albania), the Armed Forces, the Border Police and the relevant Italian authorities (MRCC Rome, MRSC Bari and MRSC Venezia).
The search area extends from Cape Stillo in the south to the mouth of the Seman River in the north, including the sea segments opposite Ksamil and Karaburun.
The operation involved an Air Force TB2 drone, a UH-60 helicopter with 3 personnel, a P05 patrol boat with 4 personnel, a watercraft with 2 personnel, 4 Border Police patrol vehicles (BP-01, BP-06, BP-09, BP-30) with a total of 13 personnel. The police announced that a total of 8 air and sea vehicles and 22 personnel were engaged.
The operation is being conducted according to international search and rescue protocols at sea, and will continue in the coming days, depending on weather conditions and developments on the ground. So far, there is still no trace of the missing person.
