The preliminary hearing for the “Partizani” case has been postponed to May 5, A2 CNN reports. Sali Berisha and his son-in-law, Jamarbër Malltezi, are accused of privatizing the former “Partizani” sports complex in Tirana, a state property of considerable value.
The Special Prosecution Office (SPAK) claims that the privatization was carried out illegally, causing great economic damage to the state. According to SPAK, Jamarbër Malltezi has unjustly benefited from the property through Sali Berisha's influence in state institutions.
Berisha is accused of “passive corruption of high-ranking state officials.” Malltezi is accused of “money laundering” and “active corruption.” The investigations have also included several other officials who were part of the privatization process.
Berisha has described the file as a political attack on him and has refused to appear before SPAK, declaring himself politically persecuted. (A2 Televizion)
