The Gjirokastra police have arrested the perpetrator who attempted to rob a currency exchange point in the “18 Shtatori” neighborhood. The perpetrator is a 16-year-old who used a toy gun to commit this robbery. After checking the cameras and conducting investigative actions, the police identified and arrested the teenager with the initials JD, a resident of Gjirokastra.
The police have seized, as material evidence, the suspected toy pistol used during the attempted robbery.
Also seized were the perpetrator's clothing, 3 cutting tools (knives), 3,900 suspected counterfeit dollar bills, 1 electronic scale, 1 mask, and 1 metal detector, which were found in his apartment.
The incident occurred at around 11:45 today, when the Police were notified by the owner of a currency exchange point that a citizen had attempted to steal a large amount of money there, using an object that appeared to be a firearm. Immediately after the notification, the Police services organized the work to identify the perpetrator and clarify the circumstances of the case.
The procedural materials were referred to the Prosecutor's Office at the First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction in Gjirokastra, for further action, for the criminal offenses of "Theft by force", attempted, "Counterfeiting of currency" and "Unlicensed production, possession, purchase or sale of cold weapons".
