Escaped from Shenkoll prison, 49-year-old captured after two months

Two months after his sensational escape from Shënkoll prison, Daut Laze was arrested this Monday evening in the Astir area of the capital. The 49-year-old was handcuffed by officers of Police Station No. 6 following information received from police intelligence.

Daut Laze escaped from the Special Medical Institution at the Lezha Penitentiary on February 4 of this year.

"The services of Police Commissariat No. 6, in Astir, arrested the wanted citizen Daut Laze, 49 years old, resident of Astir. Further actions will be carried out by the Lezha Local Police Directorate," the announcement states.

After the escape of the 49-year-old, considered a high social risk, the police conducted numerous checks on his relatives, religious buildings, or even abandoned apartments and premises, while in exchange for any information on the first day of the escape, a reward of 10 thousand euros was set.

From the expertise conducted by investigators in the prison, it resulted that Daut Laze had left the cell calmly and alone, at around 03:44 on February 4. From the examination of the prison's security cameras, it was observed that the 49-year-old had encountered difficulties only when overcoming the institution's perimeter wall, while the entire escape, according to sources, did not last more than 30 minutes.

After Laze's escape, three Shenkoll prison employees were arrested for abuse of office, who were later released with mild security measures by the court.

During their statements, Shenkoll prison employees claimed that during the time they spent in front of the room where Laze was lying, they remembered that he was asleep in his cell.

The 49-year-old was arrested for domestic violence, but last year the Tirana Court ordered mandatory treatment for him. (A2 Televizion)
