The prestigious "La Sapienza" University in Rome has honored Albanian student Ilaria Sula, who tragically lost her life a few weeks ago, after being allegedly murdered by her ex-boyfriend.
Ilaria, only 23 years old, was studying statistical sciences and was an active part of the university community. The serious event deeply affected not only the Albanian public, but also the Italian one.
In her honor, “La Sapienza” has decided that the largest new study hall within the New University Theater Building will be named “Ilaria Sula”. The inauguration ceremony took place on the occasion of the 722nd anniversary of the university’s founding, where two other study spaces were also inaugurated.
A memorial plaque placed in the hall reads:
"Ilaria, student of Sapienza, so as not to forget all the women victims of femicide, who were deprived of the opportunity to write their own future."
Ilaria Sula's parents and brother attended the ceremony. Her father, Flamur Sula, thanked the university for the honor and said with emotion: "Today Ilaria was reborn."
The student was reported missing on March 25 and, after several days of searching, was found dead. According to Italian authorities, she is suspected of being murdered by her ex-partner, Filipino citizen Mark Antony Samson, who stabbed her three times and then stuffed her body into a suitcase, dumping it in a wooded area outside Rome.
Investigations are still ongoing, and it is suspected that the perpetrator may have been helped by other people, including his parents. (A2 Televizion)
