The "Mother Teresa" University Hospital Center has reacted after the death of the 12-year-old from Maliqi the day before at the Pediatric Hospital of the State Medical University. In a statement distributed to the media, QSUT also announces the cause of the minor's death. According to her, the patient was diagnosed with acute myocarditis, a rare and dangerous disease, which is associated with a high mortality rate.
"Based on the public's interest in the tragic case of the 12-year-old's death, we inform you that the patient LS was hospitalized at the Pediatric Hospital of QSUT on January 7, 2024 and died on January 8, 2025, at 01:45, in the Pediatric Intensive Care Service. After the examinations, the patient was diagnosed with acute myocarditis, a rare and dangerous disease, which is associated with a high mortality rate. Despite maximum care and treatments carried out according to medical protocols, it was impossible to prevent the death of the patient", announces QSUT.
As it expresses its deepest condolences to the family of 12-year-old LS at this difficult moment, QSUT says it will continue its commitment to transparency and to providing the best treatments for every patient.

The 12-year-old was initially treated with medical help at the regional hospital of Korça, but the doctors of this hospital, based on his serious condition, urgently sent him to QSUT.
This is not the first case of suspected deaths due to cardiac problems among young people in Korça district, as 3 other deaths were registered a few days ago, where a 16-year-old died in Korça, a 17-year-old died in Pogradec and another case in the city of Erseka, where a 15-year-old girl lost her life outside the school premises.
