The Democratic Party sees the Freedom Party as one of its strongest allies, with which it can guarantee more mandates in the May 11 elections, mandates that, according to Ivi Kaso, were denied to both political forces in the 2021 elections due to the obstruction that Edi Rama made to coalitions.
Asked in the "Off the Record" studio by Andrea Danglli on A2 CNN whether the Freedom Party is an asset or a burden for the DP, in the current conditions with its leader Ilir Meta behind bars, Kaso said that they are valuable allies.
"The Freedom Party is our ally as it has been in the last electoral processes. In 2021, the lack of a joint list with the PL has penalized both of us as political forces. With the change in the rules of the game, the PL was forced to compete on its own and there were many districts, such as the Korça district, where the mandate could not be obtained for about 1,000 votes. There were other even more flagrant districts, where the opposition mandate could not be obtained for 60 votes in Berat, or for 100 votes in Durrës. There is an unexplored potential for synergy between the DP, PL and other parties, which will face the conditions, the rules of the game that are already in force. Although they are not favorable for large coalitions, a way will be found for this synergy to be translated into opposition mandates, to make change possible in this country. "It is something that was prevented in 2021 due to the change in the rules of the game in 20221 and we hope it will become possible in these elections," said Kaso. (A2 Televizion)
