The deadline for registering immigrants to vote in the parliamentary elections of May 11, 2025 has passed. The Regulatory Commission at the Central Election Commission rejected the proposal to postpone the process by 5 days.
"Changing the rules of the game at the last moment does not serve the process. The diaspora has had enough time to express its will/right. By extending the deadline, the 63-day deadline is broken," declared Ilirjana Nano, chairwoman of the CEC Regulatory Commission.
Two members of the Regulatory Commission, Helga Vukaj and Muharrem Çakaj, requested at the Regulatory Commission meeting to extend the deadline until March 9 for the registration of Albanian citizens living abroad on the Electronic Registration Platform (PER) to participate in the May 11 parliamentary elections.
Specifically, according to the proposal of the members of the Regulatory Commission, "an additional 5-day deadline was requested, during which voters whose request was rejected can reapply, completing the documentation and legal requirements, and for other voters to be able to register."
