The chairman of the National Development Movement Party, Dashamir Shehi, has stated that Albanian politics is exerting pressure through undemocratic means to gain the vote of the diaspora.
Shehi made the comments through a statement to the media from the LZHK headquarters, where he said that the law on the diaspora vote was made to expand the space of freedom and not to extend Albanian politics abroad.
He added that the diaspora should vote freely and in an emancipated manner.
"LZHK has taken a new position on the diaspora vote. I have submitted 2 laws to Parliament on the diaspora vote. We are seeing here that all parties are rushing for the diaspora vote. And we are seeing that they are waging such a war, like this war in Tirana.
They are dividing those immigrants there who have been friends and comrades. I think we made the law so that those people can vote freely there. To vote because they are more emancipated than us and more free from fear because they do not work and do business in Albania.
"But if we bring our mentality to them, they will no longer vote freely, but as an extension of Albanian politics. We made the law to expand the space of freedom, not to extend Albanian politics," Shehi said, among other things. (A2 Televizion)
