Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha has made strong accusations regarding the diaspora voting process for the May 11 elections, describing it as the most shameful face of the electoral farce. In a statement to the media from the blue headquarters, he said that the diaspora vote was manipulated in a massive, unscrupulous and coordinated manner by the government and the Socialist Party.
According to Berisha, the international company DHL, which was contracted to transport the envelopes, violated the contract by using subcontractors closely linked to the SP, despite the contract clearly prohibiting any subcontracting. According to him, the Albanian segment of DHL acted on the orders of Edi Rama.
"DHL, by order of the government, has violated the contract and contracted other subcontractors, who have closely cooperated with the SP. Although the contract stipulated that no type of subcontracting could be done. DHL was accepted by us because of its reputation, but the Albanian segment of DHL functioned completely according to the orders, instructions of the government and Edi Rama. The envelopes, the votes, were not filled by registered citizens, but they were filled in thousands, thousands, thousands of them by patronage agents, sent from Tirana, by employees or former employees of embassies and brought about a manipulation that got out of control," said Berisha.
Berisha also accused the Albanian Post of direct involvement in the manipulation, claiming that envelopes with forged votes were remade in its warehouses by patronage agents. He brought concrete examples from different regions such as Tirana, Lezha, Dibra and Fieri, where the number of counted envelopes is higher than that of envelopes sent from the diaspora.
In some cases, the SP has received up to 97 percent of the vote, a result that Berisha compared to North Korea.
"This is an electoral charade that will never be recognized," he declared, warning that the opposition will pursue every avenue to denounce and document this "electoral crime."
