Democratic Party candidate Aulon Kalaja stated that this electoral code has penalized candidates who emerge from open lists, causing only a small portion of them to emerge from a fair competition, as the rest belong to the closed list.
Kalaja made the comments on the 'Debat' show with journalist Alba Alishani on A2 CNN, where he said that he personally is in favor of a majoritarian system.
"I think I would be in favor of a more composed list, with new names, with new arrivals. In fact, what this entire electoral code has produced is a great ugliness, because 3-4 are names that come from the open list. It is madness, that all this war is being waged for this thing. The rest are salaried workers, people who will receive their salary. I find what is happening to democracy in Albania very serious. Not only in the DP, but in general. I was against the electoral code. I personally am in favor of a majoritarian system," said Kalaja, writes A2 CNN
Meanwhile, analyst Ervis Iljazaj responded to Kala's claim for a majoritarian system, saying that with that system and the current result, the SP would receive 100 mandates.
