The Chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, visited the Vatican embassy in Tirana on Wednesday to express condolences for the passing of Pope Francis.
"Pope Francis passed away as a great Pope of peace. He was also a distinguished friend of the Albanian nation. Albania would have been one of the first countries he visited after his inauguration on the papal throne of the Holy See," Berisha told the media, writes A2 CNN.
"I was lucky enough to meet him and talk to him briefly on the day of the inauguration. I invited him to Albania. I noticed that he showed attention and interest in the invitation. I told him, I am inviting you first because it is a tradition that neighbors are visited first and we are among the first neighbors. Secondly, the history of the Albanian church, but also the alliance of Albanians with the Vatican, calls for this visit."
Berisha described Pope Francis' visit to our country in 2013 as an extraordinary event for Albania. "Pope Francis beatified here 38 martyrs of the Albanian church, who fell to become immortal for their faith in God and Christ the King during the Stalinist dictatorship of Enver Hoxha. We wish the holy father eternal life in his eternal life. Once again, our deepest condolences," he said.
"To the Holy Father Pope Francis! The Pope of Popes and friend of the Albanian nation, with the greatest honors and deepest gratitude," was the message that Berisha wrote in the Book of Condolences. (A2 Televizion)
