The Chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has decided to appoint General in the Reserve, Piro Ahmetaj, as "Coordinator for National Security and NATO Affairs" in the DP.
"General Ahmetaj is a military man with experience and prominent contributions to national security and defense reforms, the accession process, and relations with the US/NATO.
"For 36 years in uniform, General Ahmetaj has served at the highest military and representative levels of the country, as Deputy Chief of General Staff, Advisor to the President and founder of the National Representation at the NATO Supreme Command," the DP statement reads.
After retiring in 2020, the general was hired as a National Security Advisor to the Democratic Party.
He remains a well-known voice in the national security community in the region and in security headquarters in Washington, Brussels, and the NATO College, where he graduated. (A2 Televizion)
