During an electoral meeting in Kuçova, the leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, declared that the "Open Balkans" would be abolished on the first day of the right-wing coming to power, while guaranteeing Albanian farmers strong financial support.
Berisha stressed that Albanian farmers are in a very difficult situation due to the wrong policies of the current government, adding that 80% of agricultural products in Albanian markets come from Serbia, duty-free. He promised that subsidies for Albanian farmers would be increased fivefold, equalizing them with those of countries in the region such as North Macedonia, Serbia and Kosovo.
"I guarantee you that your products will be protected in season. The Open Balkans will be torn apart on the first day of the Democratic Party's government. The hostile tax against farmers, the symmetrical VAT tax, will end. VAT will be returned to the farmer and not to the wholesaler. And what did Edi Rama do this year, excuse me. 8 billion euros, for 380 thousand farmers who provide 20% of domestic production, who employ 500 thousand Albanians. How much did he give? He gave a total of 57 million euros, of which farmers receive a subsidy of 32 million. My word of honor, that this amount will be increased 5-fold. Yes. That you, for every production unit, greenhouse, field or whatever, for every seedling planted, for every head of livestock kept, will be financed in the same way as farmers in surrounding countries are financed. So the subsidy will be increased 5-fold and I guarantee you that your products will be protected in season", Berisha said.
He also promised significant investments in drainage and irrigation systems for agricultural lands, with a fund of 70 million euros per year, emphasizing that the Banja hydroelectric power plant will be used to double the irrigated areas in Albania.
Following his speech, Berisha also addressed small businesses, promising to reduce the price of energy from 18 to 6 lekë.
"'Made in Albania', Albanian production will be our pride. I guarantee it to the businessmen of Kuçova and Albania. Small business, energy drops from 18 to 6 lek. Municipalities will never be able to impose taxes and fees more than 1%", emphasized the leader of the DP.
The democratic leader did not leave out the result of the local elections in Kuçova, accusing the government of robbing Lefter Maliqi of his mandate. " The law will act with the greatest force against those who robbed you of your victory ," Berisha emphasized to his supporters. (A2 Televizion)
