The Democratic Obedience Party and the National Development Movement will merge into a single political force. This was the decision announced today by the representative of the Democratic Obedience Party, Fabian Topollaj, and the head of the LZHK, Dashamir Shehi, in a statement to the media.
"What I wanted to announce is that Bindja Demokratike has decided to merge with the Movement for National Development. We are following the legal steps and are in the final phase of the legal steps. This is a political action, based on the fact that LZHK is today the political party that best embodies those values and goals for which Bindja Demokratike was created and developed. Values that have to do with an open political system," said Fabian Topollaj.
Topollaj emphasized the country's "crying need" to have an alternative opposition that goes beyond the doors of the Democratic Party, which in recent years has had internal problems that have shifted focus from the daily troubles of Albanians.
"Today, LZHK is the party that has initiated a coalition based on the principles of open lists. We consider that Albania has a dire need to have an alternative opposition, which does not remain only within the Democratic Party, which has had its own very strong problems during these years and is unable to represent the entire Albanian opposition electorate. For this reason, we have decided to merge the Democratic Conscience party with LZHK and we will make every effort with our structures so that in the 2025 elections the coalition that this movement is leading obtains the best possible result, as the only way for the opposition to become larger, an alternative, open opposition that cherishes the best democratic values", Topollaj underlined.
The Democratic Persuasion was created as a faction of the Democratic Party in early 2019. In the local elections of the same year, the Democratic Persuasion managed to win several councilor positions in the Municipal Councils, notably the Municipalities of Tirana, Durrës, and Vlora. (A2 Televizion)
